SALONLINE

The art exhibitions of the Parisian Salons of the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries have long been gatherings of mythological importance. A touch point for the profound web of art and artists that freely flowed in and out of Paris for centuries. While I knew of The Salon before attending school at Parsons Paris, my sincere interest began upon completing that program, After living in New York for a decade, I had established a network of artists of multiple disciplines, but could not find an informal discussion group around topics relating to art and artists that didn’t involve buying a ticket.

The New York Salon started in earnest in 2013 at a coffee shop in the old German neighborhood of Yorkville. It was attended by a rotating community of nearly 30 different artists from almost as many disciplines. Then in 2015, The New Salon began in Nashville, TN. It continued to evolve, being hosted by bars, galleries, and performance spaces. And now in 2019, it has begun again here in Pittsburgh, PA.

As The New Salon evolves to include visiting artists from past iterations of the discussion group and a community of cross-country connections, I am finally beginning to see the actualization of my hopes for the group from the very beginning; A monthly, international discussion group centered around a mobile network of professional artists.
